Visit to Benedictine Monastery

I apologize, I know it has been a while since I have visited the Missionary Benedictines. I have been busy with school and with the recent death of my good aunt Lissa (memory eternal!).

The visit to the Monastery was wonderful! I was able to experience the work of the monks even moreso on this second visit. I was also able to learn more about the Monastic prayer schedule and way of life.

Monasticism, as I am finding, is a truly unique calling. It takes much patience and prayer to discern such a thing. But, if called, it is a beautiful life to live. Even... (more)

On Monday, July 18th, I will be visiting the Missionary Benedictines for a week. They are located in Schuyler, Nebraska. Some may remember me visiting them last year for a week. I loved their hospitality and the spirit of the Benedictines.

Here is their website, if anyone is interested: The Missionary Benedictines. Have a wonderful week!

Foul Language

I know this is something that seems to come up alot and pervades today's society: foul language. Here is what St. John Chrysostomos said about foul language: "Above all the other members, then, let us control this; let us bridle it; and let us expel from the mouth railings, and contumelies, and foul and slanderous language, and the evil habit of oaths." Foul language can often be offensive to other people, who are the receivers of the words said by another. When someone says foul language, dont respond back with foul language, but rather, speak with kind words. Foul language will... (more)

Asking God for Help

One of the things I have been finding out in life is to never be afraid to ask God for help. Oftentimes, something will happen, and I will feel I need to solve this myself, its my problem, I shouldnt expect God to help me with it. But rather, we need to be open to God, to allow Him to work in our life. Let Him help you.

Another thing to remember is this: you have to ask God for help! I have found that you can't receive help from Him unless you ask for it. Sometimes it can be a very humbling experience when you ask Him to heal you, and to help you through whatever you may... (more)

Individualism

Individualism has become a large problem in society. Unfortunately, it is very easy to come caught up in it. I myself have been caught in it before. As I am currently studying this issue, though, it has become a major problem, especially in the American society. What is individualism? It is the belief that each person must take responsibility for his or her own life, and when others fail to do so, we shouldn't be expected to help them. However, the teachings of Christ preach contrary to this. We are expected to help them. We are told in the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy... (more)

The Environment

The enviornment seems to be something that is commonly abused by people in society today. The environment is one of the most important things given to us. Everything we have on earth, the trees, the little bugs, the flowers, etc., are LOANED, not given, to us by God, for our enjoyment, and for our use. But we must use them properly. For example, animals can be made to be food. God put on this earth chickens and fish to be used as food. But what he didn't intend for us to do is to go around killing animals just for fun, or abusing them for fun. We must take care of them, as a... (more)

Downloading Music

I know many of my friends like to download music off the internet. This is very commonly done in today's society. However, it is immoral to download music off the internet, without the express permission from the author. There is a temptation, due to high CD prices, to say that the unjust pricing of the record companies justifies this type of theft. The ends DO NOT justify the means in this case.

Just wanted to clear that up for anyone out there wondering. I wrote this with the help of a Seminarian majoring in philosophy.

God bless, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Driving

Now that I have begun driving, I have seen alot of things that many do, and don't consider wrong, while driving. One of the most common of these is speeding. Speeding can be a sin, if done intentionally, because by speeding excessively, you endanger others' lives. That is why we must always try to drive the speed limit. Another thing I commonly see is a lack of charity on the roads. I see many get angry over the simplest things. We must learn to accept that no one is a charitable driver, and not be mean to them. When we see someone who needs to get in our lane, let them in, or if... (more)

Update on Vocation

Right now, I am feeling called more to preach than to the Monastic way of life. While I still feel called to the Religious Life, I feel more called to preach. This isn't the apostolate of the Missionary Benedictines as much as it is for the Dominicans and the Crosiers. I don't believe I have put up a link yet to the Dominicans. Click here to find out more about them. This is for the western province.

But, as usual, I will try to stay open to what God is calling me to, even if this isn't the priesthood. The single life and married life are also two wonderful and... (more)
